AMD Phenom II X4 980 CPU En Route

AMD is not yet done with the Phenom II series quad-core processors. The chip maker is planning yet another high-end Black Edition processor - Phenom II X4 980 that will be clocked at 3.70Ghz out of the box. This new Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition processor is based on Deneb core and will have a Thermal Envelope of 125W, reported Turkish website Donanim Haber. AMD has added same 900 series features in this model.

Upcoming AMD Phenom II X4 980 processor is manufactured from the 45nm SOI processor and will support the Socket AM3 motherboards. This processor is capable of supporting DDR3 RAM upto PC3-10600 on the recent Socket AM3 motherboards. Obviously, the X4 980 will come with C3 stepping as the the current high-end model Phenom II X4 975 is manufactured using the same.

Boasting of 3.70GHz clock speed, the Phenom II X4 980 has four cores and has 512KB dedicated L2 Cache per core. In total, the CPU has 6MB shared L3 cache and can support HyperThreading up to 2GHz with an operating voltage of up to 1.4 Volts. Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition could be the final processor in the 45nm Deneb core family as the Bulldozer processors are expected to arrive in June.

This Deneb core processor would be compatible with the Socket AM3 and Socket AM2+ based motherboards. We can expect this processor to show up internationally in the coming months.
