When it comes to Apple's white products, it's always a big deal. We know that many users must have held on their horses to purchase the white coloured iPhone 4. It's not just an iPhone 4 in White color - Apple enthusiast Japanese blog MacOtakara found teardown photos of the white iPhone 4 which show that a different camera lens and proximity sensor has been used for it. Don't ask us why Apple did it for we also don't know a perfect reason.
Proximity sensor and camera lens in the white iPhone 4 may have changed but that doesn't boost the respective function performance in any case. The type of image sensor is similar in black version and white version of iPhone 4 but it's the magnitude of incident light which is different for both versions.
Apparently, the change in the camera lens for the white iPhone 4 was the result of light leakage issues in the earlier prototypes. Basically, the digital images captured using white iPhone 4 prototype appeared to be more washed out and bad quality when compared to those captured by black iPhone 4. White iPhone 4's semi-translucent glass was cited as the main culprit and that is why I believe the camera lens appears to be different in white model.
Though the white iPhone 4 would be 0.2 mm thicker, it would surely contribute to the ever increasing sales of Apple devices. If manufacturing and rolling out a white coloured device causes so much extra effort then it s better for Apple to concentrated on its other usual iOS devices.
