The photo feud between Instagram and Twitter continued over the weekend.
Last Wednesday, the photo-sharing service disabled its Twitter cards, leaving company unable to properly display Instagram images in its feeds. Despite this, photos were still viewable, albeit cropped.
Yesterday, Instagram completely disabled photo integration with Twitter. The social network confirmed this, and as a result, photos are no longer appearing in Tweets or members’ photos galleries. Now when you share an Instagram photo on Twitter, only a link to the photo will appear on your timeline. As followers click on this link, they will be taken to your Instagram web profile.
Despite the rather lackluster integration — which Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom promises will remain intact — Twitter seems to be moving forward with its plan to release its own photo filters. All Things D claims that Twitter will release its new filters before the end of 2012.
The new direction taken by Instagram likely won’t affect casual users of the service. However, if you relied heavily on the visual integration between Instagram and Twitter, you’ll have to start making some changes. For example, you might want to get more creative with the text you share alongside your images, as you now have to convince your Twitter followers to click through to your Instagram web profile.
