Facebook like Button Features

Popular social network Facebook's Like button has given birth to thousands of serial likers! (Yes, I just made it up). Apparently to live up to the true motive of liking and sharing user-generated or uploaded content, Facebook had introduced a new Share button last year. Till date, you could like almost everything on Facebook but couldn't share the same in your News Feed with your connections. Mashable reports that the Like button is soon getting the Share functionality and thereby you can share the posted content with others.

Upcoming features on Facebook always keep showing up during the testing phase. Facebook spokeswoman Malorie Lucich informed that Facebook will continue to carry the Share button on the website. "We're always testing new products that incorporate developer feedback as we work to improve the Platform experience, and have no details to share at this time," Lucich said.

Basically any post, photo, video, or link you Like on Facebook would get the Share functionality as well so that you can share it with others. In a way, it s just going to increase the noise by duplication of same post. To Like something on Facebook is very different from sharing it with others.  Marketers and publishers would certainly admire the new Share functionality of the Like button since the audience will be anticipated to like and share the content.
Like & Share buttons

The new feature has its own set of merits and demerits. The merit lies is that users can share whatever they like with others after hitting the Like button. But the demerit lies in the fact that just because one hits the Like button it doesn't mean users wants to share it with his/her friends. In fact, just like several complain about certain users hitting Like button for everything possible, it just becomes difficult to judge accurately whether the purpose was served or not.

The share functionality for the Like button would be visible mostly on the Facebook web interface and mobile interface only. It won't impact the individual Like and Share plugins available as part of Social Plugins. However, we do not underestimate the Facebook user for they know what each feature stands for. Hence I hope if and when this new feature rolls out, users will make use of it judiciously.

iPad 2 display bezel images leak

Apple may have failed spectacularly in delivering the white iPhone 4 they promised at launch and then several times later but it seems they have decided to make up in the form of a white iPad 2. According to these images by 9to5 Mac, the iPad 2 definitely seems to have a white colored model in its range, as once the iPhone 4 did. You can see the hole for the front facing camera at the top of the display, along with a smaller one for the ambient light sensor. The backside also reveals the connectors for the multi-touch capacitive touchscreen.

For those have just crawled out from under a particularly ancient rock from the far end of a Himalayan cave, and have no idea what the iPad 2 is, it is the successor to Apple s wildly popular tablet and will be publicly revealed for the first time on the 2nd of March, two days from today. It is expected to be thinner and lighter than the current iPad, have a more powerful processor and more RAM and will have a front facing camera for FaceTime. And now, from the looks of it, a white colored version as well.

Nvidia Readies Dual GPU GTX 590 for March

According to DonanimHaber Nvidia's fire breathing dual GPU car - the GTX 590 is all set to debut at the PAX East 2011 which takes place from March 11-13. The picture you see below is a prototype card from Galaxy which features two full fledged GF110 Fermi cores on a single PCB. The core will be linked most like with a PLX bridge chip like in the past and from the looks of the card, will support SLI. Expect the power consumption to be significant to say the least and nothing short of a 800W PSU would do.

AMD's HD 6990, which was supposed to launch last year, is also rumored to see the light of day sometime next month. With CeBIT starting from March 1, there's going to be an exclusive behind closed doors look at the GTX 590 for those lucky few who get the invite. Expect more coverage as soon as we get a whiff of some more details like the specifications and other performance figures.

AMD Set to Launch HD 6990 on March 8

The other day, we heard Nvidia was readying their dual GPU monster, the GTX 590 and today, we get a date from AMD saying that they will launch the Radeon HD 6990 on March 8. Nvidia is also planning on a March release for the GTX 590 but they haven't released any dates yet. The HD 6990 will consist of two Cayman GPUs on a single PCB so expect it to be long and power hungry. The two cores will most probably be bridged using a PLX chip. No word on pricing and availability yet but expect the cards to hit retail around April.
