Nokia Ditches WiMAX, Stops N810 Production

In yet another blow for the struggling WiMax technology, Nokia has said that it has stopped production of the N810 WiMax edition tablet.

The reason cited by the world's largest cellphone manufacturer is that the product had reached the end of its life-cycle. The interesting thing to note is that it has been just nine months since the product was launched; that seems to be too short a life-cycle, especially when mainstream handsets have at least a life-cycle of one year. Nokia has, however, not ruled out the introduction of other WiMax handsets in the future.

WiMax, which has been competing with LTE (Long Term Evolution) for the status of the next generation mobile technology, seems to have lost a lot of ground owing to the recent advancements in the LTE technology and the possible future adoption of LTE by handset manufacturers.
