Fujitsu to Launch STYLISTIC Q550 Tablet in April

With Android Honeycomb based tablets hogging all the limelight, the world seems to have forgotten about Windows 7 tablets that Mr. Ballmer promised would wipe the smile of Steve Job s face. Well, Fujitsu is already planning an April launch for its new Intel Oak Trail based tablet called the STYLISTIC Q550. This tablet will be based on Windows 7 and is targeted squarely at the executive class that needs a high security environment for mobile enterprise computing.

The most interesting part here is that the Q550 will be the first tablet running Intel's new Oak Trail based Atom CPU. The Atom Z670 will most likely be the first one in the Oak Trail line-up and will mostly end up in the Q550. The CPU has a single core with two threads running at 1.5GHz and carries 512KB of cache. It also has a very low TDP of just 3W which is required for battery powered mobile devices like tablets. Intel is about to enter into fierce competition with established CPU manufacturers like Samsung, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm who had a good lead as its CPUs have been powering smartphones and upcoming tablets for a while now and are also hitting speeds of up to 1.5GHz and feature two cores.

Fujitsu s Q550 is not designed for home entertainment as it s meant for more serious tasks. A few details have been leaked - it will last for half a day on a single charge, it will have an anti-glare 10.1-inch screen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an optional mobile broadband 3G. It will also have a biometric scanner, a docking station, stylus based input and will pack in 2GB RAM and a 64GB SSD. Fujitsu is not the only one busting out Win 7 Slates, expect Dell and Lenovo to show their respective versions of the tablets too.
