Samsung Galaxy Y (GT-S5360) Review: Best entry level Android Phone

Samsung Galaxy Young
Samsung Galaxy Y (Y stands  for Young) whose model number is GT-S5360 is one of the best entry level phone. The current market rate of this handset is Rs. 7100/-. The look of the handset is really beautiful and I loved the overall performance. Let me discuss about some of the basic features of this mobile.
Samsung Galaxy Y is a Bar type phone which is powered by 832 MHz processor and Android 2.3 Gingerbird. The mobile comes with 2 GB free micro-SD card.
General Specifications:
The phone supports standard GSM networks (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G with HSDPA. It is a Bar type phone. Size of the phone good enough for grip in hands. Dimension of the phone is 104x58x11.5 mm and 97.5gm in weight.
Display and Sound
Display of the phone is below standard for Smart Phone but for sure at this price tag you can’t expect more. The phone comes with 3″ and 65K QVGA TFT LCD screen. The screen is very responsive and better than any other handset in its category. The resolution of the screen is 240x320px and the pixel density of the screen is about 133ppi.
Sound of the earpiece and Speaker is good and Samsung has maintained its sound quality. Sound quality of the earphone is satisfactory and no extra ear-buds provided with the standard earphones.
CPU, Memory and OS:
The handset is superior in CPU and powered by 832MHz ARM v6 processor, where as other handset in this range is generally 600MHz. Also you will feel the power of its CPU. The It has 256MB RAM which is average. The inbuilt storage of the phone is 164MB and it supports upto 32 GB.
The phone comes with free 2 GB micro SD card. (including adapter)
Samsung Galaxy Y or (GT-S5360) has Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread.
Camera
Samsung Galaxy Y comes with 2 Mega Pixel fixed focus camera. I think Samsung should did this wrong and it should be at least 3.2 megapixel. I belive 2 Mega Pixel is quite outdated. However the image and video quality of the camera is good.
Battery and Miscellaneous:
Battery of the phone is good enough for android phones. Practically it gives me 3 days standby with a few hours talk time. However when all network features (WiFi, always on GPRS and 3G network) it gives me about 40hrs and low battery alert started. In an extreme condition when I played a lot of games and watched movies, switched on GPRS GPS, WiFi on 3G network it hardly provided 16 hrs.
Again, This is an Android phone and it has satisfactory backup. The phone comes with standard charger which fits only on 6 Amp 3pin electric socket. The charging of the battery is slow and which is good for battery life.
Pros:
  • Good features at 7k tag.
  • Design is slick and I loved it.
  • Processor is good.
  • Image quality of camera is good.
Cons:
  • The annoying message “SD card removed unexpectedly” flashes many times.
  • Screen resolution is low.
  • Only 2 MP camera and no dedicated Shutter button.
