Gmail Reset Accidentally Deletes Emails, Chats

Several Gmail users have reported that their emails, chat history, labels, folders and basically just about every personal setting got deleted yesterday, according to a report on Huffington Post. The issue has reportedly affected around 0.29% or 5,00,000 Google Mail userbase, but has been updated to 0.08% when we last checked the status before posting this report.

Users have been complaining on Gmail help forums about the issue. Google Employee and Gmail Specialist, Michelle has responded, "We're looking into this issue right now. I know how important your messages are to you. Thanks for reporting on the forum."

Google has been working to resolve this issue and you can read the latest status on Apps Status Dashboard over here. The status as of 9:10 AM IST was "Google Mail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users in the near future. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change. This issue affects less than 0.08% of the Google Mail userbase. Google engineers are working to restore full access. Affected users will be temporarily unable to sign in while we repair their accounts."
