Buffalo's USB 3.0 Based 12x Blu-ray Burner

While Blu-ray media gaining popularity at slow but steady pace, Buffalo has quickly rolled out USB 3.0 powered 12x Blu-ray burner. In this dearth of Blu-ray media, this is just an update that needs to be tabbed on. Obviously the comparison of this blu-ray burner for storage options would be made with external hard disk drives. This 12x Blu-ray burner can be used with Windows 7 based computers.

Buffalo boasts of up to 12x speed for writing a single or dual layer Blu-ray disc BR-X1216U3 and relies on latest USB 3.0 standard for reducing writing time. This 12x Blu-ray burner is also backward compatible to USB 2.0 connections.

What is interesting is that this drive offers the "Save Upscaling" capability and hence, the Standard Definition content can be viewed in HD style and experience. Besides several other features listed, one can use this Blu-ray burner with 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 operating system.

Buffalo is offering this 12x Blu-ray burner for 39,100 Yen in Japan which will costs about $449 (Rs. 21,600 approx.) elsewhere. If you're ready to burn that hole in your pocket, go for it. Last year, we reviewed Buffalo 8x MediaStation External Blu-ray writer which was priced Rs. 45,000 then. Though its price might have reduced now, it is still overpriced when compared with similar products from other brands.
