Apple follows an annual product life cycle where in every iOS product gets a refresh year on year. As the Sept. month approaches, Apple is rumored of planning to launch yet another version of iPod touch. Crunch Gear has grabbed blurry photos of iPod touch models that are assumed to be prototypes of upcoming fifth-generation iPod touch. With aluminum back, the said iPod touch model has a 128GB storage, capacitive home button and looks more of a prototype with iOS 4.2.1 (MC14) running on it. My word on the same - mostly it's a fake or else it's an internal engineering prototype.
Apple's next refresh of its heavily popular portable media player would be fifth generation and is likely to have something novel compared to its predecessors. Firstly, the storage capacity of this iPod model is displayed as 128GB which is more than the iPod classic (in terms of storage size). Leaked images suggest that it may have a capacitive home button as Apple was already rumored of testing a Home button-less iPhone. The image shows iPod touch running iOS 4.2.1 (MC14) firmware and has MC550LL model number which actually corresponds to a Mac Pro system. The device's back panel appears to be made of aluminum but to me it appears more of stain-less steel.

What could be Apple's strategy to introduce iOS device with a capacitive Home Button? Innovation and prevention against jailbreak. Well, Home button does play important role in putting the iOS device in a service mode before jailbreaking it. Capacitive touch based Home button could put a halt to the jailbreaking phenomenon. What do you have to say on these leaked images?
